A. The Culturalcentrist Lens is one of my highest preferences.
1. The Culturalcentrist Len is my preference and has a score of 14 which ranks as one my highest along with the Colorblind, Multiculturalist and the Victim/Caretaker.
2. Jamal’s characteristics that I agree with are: His ability to be a problem-solver, streamliner and is known for his crisis-management skills, sensitive to individual’s needs regardless of race and his ability to be empathetic. Also, he is enthusiastic and takes pride in doing a good job and is supportive of the concerns of black employees. Further, I can relate to his desire and goal to advance and have experienced his frustration with not being able to advance further due to him being perceived as being too assertive and insensitive.
3. The concept that I disagree with is the Under the Shadows category that states “Want us to believe that one of the most important and central facets of our identity is our racial or ethnic heritage; for many, this is simply not the case” because I do not feel that it is contrary to our nature to have instilled pride in who you are and not feel glad that you are the person you are. Each person is entitled to feel self-worth in themselves and embrace and celebrate who they are and not feel that it is a detriment because there is no way you can change who you are but live and honor who you are.
B. The Culturalcentrist Lens is a summary of or study of people who emphasize racial pride and the expectations of respect that is deserving to all races. Further, this Lens tries or approach by Culturalcentrist attempts to reflect that diverse groups are advantageous to all to serve the needs of the multitudes due to our diverse country. Also, realizing the need to retain identity is of tantamount of importance to retain self without being totally assimilated in the dominant group.
1. Jamal’s ideas mimics those in the historical perspective section because it allows the thought of free commerce that is guaranteed in this country by every race and that the black community should have their share of the market as well as other races. Further, fulfilling the American Dream for all and circulating monies back into their community to allow improved living conditions, options for education new representatives of the black community to personify and uphold the torch for this race.
2. Yes, there are several cultural group enclaves throughout the country whereas certain races are clustered together to retain identity, self, traditional values and cultural identity.
3. Yes, during all the struggle to retain their rights as a nation of free people they have encouraged and request the right to their self-identity and not lose their cultural heritage of yesterday and tomorrow. The right to self-identity and retention of heritage is a wonderful gift and should be treasured always.
