Inspired by Little Trotty Wagtail written by John Clare located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)
Gurgling and gasping he like to wag his little tail of brown and white feathers
Little beak of curious reflect the eyes of knowledge that he gathered and kept close
Friendly and sociable he chirped about the gossip he knew waddle waddle
Sitting fast atop in tree of large high he watch with eyes of eagle sharp all that went around
Commiserating with sorrow he told tales of sad with eyes filled with tears of pity to all those who asked who who who who
Smiling happy when news of joy he could tell he sparkled long and free with gossip gossip of happy tidings of all he knew
After all who should tell all but the bird who knew
