Inspired by The Traveller written by Raymond Wilson located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)
Once upon a time of year and old was a man of no stone
Clothing old ragged and no one to care for his old soul he became the sight of forlorn
Boots of miles miles with holes in bottoms of tread worn down they be for miles miles he traveled traveled far far far away he came and go
Still ahappy he go for a smile shined on faces of revelation as he thought of memories gone past here there
Laughter soft as humor of self reverberated through his form as children questioned whereabouts come he with legs of crooked and breath of none
Replying with soft whispers he replied I have been through the world as the wind blow cold or dear I walked walked with none to help me near or dear
Children children gathered from far and wide clamoring for tales of road adventure and all
Rebuffing them in gruff emotional filled tones he said with kindness true you can’t be talking to strangers don’t you sea for a motive they might have hidden to disguise their intent true
Bidding them farewell he continued on his way
