Call of the Witches

Inspired by The Witches Call written by Clive Sansom located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Aroar Aroar the trumpets bleat long and hard to suppress it not

They come they come one and all to dither wither slither the fear from each corner of each child

Flying low and hard they cackle cackle with threat threats to scare all who hear

Cursing the church and churchyard tombs they look at other content with their play saying together too damn bad sinner beware your time soon

Silhouettes reflected in the moon they prattle endlessly until the meet of witches and warlocks become sessions quick

Bringing familiars and cauldron they stirred a brew of tales, curses, to shiver a human soul to quicken with fear quick at the arising of a form of dark from the depths with teeth of fangs and claws of hands of large twice

Laughter reverberating deep he said good good good to be free at last thanks to the call of the witches
