Don’t Tread on Me Squeak

Inspired by Way Down South Where Bananas Grow written by Anonymous located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Peaceful sweet an elephant walked his way with quiet

Who do you think tried to irk me today? Can you imagine this?

A grasshopper kicked my toe and said I’ll beat you up and then play.

Sweet the Elephant said crying why are you so mean this way?

The grasshopper said this is just my way to throw my weight around.

Leave me along you bully you bully or I’ll run away.
