Heart of My Desire

Inspired by My Hearts in the Highland written by Robert Burns located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

My heart of heart love thy presence in the sweet briar of the highlands

A country of hills and valley and sweet air of Scottish pine

A piece of tartan of my love give to me of remembrance to compel me love he say

The pipes a singing I hear in my mind, heart and soul to give flight of feet of light and flow

Heart of my desire I see his face dear in my mind’s eye as clear as my mirror sea

Laughter rumbling in chest of deep he always clasp me near with kisses of dearest sweet

Open heart I perceive no one can understand the love of him as he carried my heart soul until I no more
