WEEK 8 Discussion 2

Explain what is involved in the crime known as “insider trading,” and how does it differ from commercial crime and cyber crime.

Insider trading involves the manipulation of trading secrets to sell and buy at the lowest price and sell high. Further learning the background of companies and whether they are financial stable or suffering financial hardships and using that information sold by an insider that works in the firm to make an illegal profit and gain. Insider trading also deals with securities, stocks and illegal practices and violation of trust whereas commercial crime involves practices of forgery and falsification of monetary instruments, fraud by computer in businesses, theft of items at a business, loss of contents in a safe deposit box and other losses that affect commercial business industries.

Cyber crime differentiates from insider trading because it is illegal activities conducted online (per internet) as follows (examples):

Online attacks of people’s computers (spreading viruses)
Illegal gambling
Storage of illegal or stolen information on computers

Describe what you think might happen if the government had no interest in controlling this type of behavior.

If the government had no control or interest in curtailing these activities then mass destruction of databases and invaluable information would occur. Shut down of businesses by incapacitating their ability to function, ruination of people’s lives, invasion of privacy, stolen funds from private accounts as well as governmental accounts, etc.

In regard to the subject of intellectual property fraud and copyright infringement law, discuss how the increasing Internet access and the ease of unauthorized duplication has changed your perspective on the practicality of enforcement

My view on this subject is that I am glad that enforcement is available because unscrupulous people will defame, slander and commit libel to achieve their chance to profit off the work of others. Everybody is entitled to their own thoughts, work – whether written or physically accomplished and should not have to suffer the inadequacy and insults of others who are a continual assault of ignorance and blight to those who work hard to achieve and all these attackers want to do is cheat and beat the system and try to claim this is the new American way of life. Go figure. By all means…fine their affected blight to all who work hard and enforce all the rules and statutes to check them and get them back where they belong…working hard like everybody else and being honest and glad to be in the U.S.A. where you get a chance to retain ownership of your work and property.

“Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen, is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen, or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies, or mobile phones. Give a brief summary of a cyberbullying case from your local or national newspaper. Do you think that there should be harsher laws for cyberbullies?
Cyberbullying is also a behavioral pattern exhibited by adults to intimidate, crush and destroy other people’s lives. Further it is also used for stalking and assault and other criminal activities if enough parties are involved. A good example of an adult’s attack on a teenager by cyberbullying that resulted in horrendous consequences is as follows:

Do any of you remember Megan Meiers?
We do Megan and her family a great injustice if we allow ourselves to forget her. The suffering and fate of that little girl still bothers me.

Give a brief summary of a cyberbullying case from your local or national newspaper. Do you think that there should be harsher laws for cyberbullies?
The first order of discussion I wanted to include is the case of “In-person bullying still bigger problem than cyberbullying” according to this article dated August 4, 2012 this type of aggressive behavioral patterns are widely more prevalent than cyberbullying based on studies. I feel that if the study requested personal information then accuracy of information received may be biased and not reflect a true accuracy. Stepping back from a situation is not the try way to acknowledge a situation is occurring and race, gender is still reason why such behavior is ignored but sometimes the ability to grow stronger results from this treatment . Seek help and therapy and grow stronger.

SATURDAY, Aug. 4 (HealthDay News) -- Face-to-face bullying is far more common than cyberbullying among youth and should be the main focus of prevention programs, according to an expert.
Psychologist Dan Olweus, of the University of Bergen, in Norway, said his findings in several large-scale studies challenge the widespread belief that cyberbullying is the major problem. He was scheduled to present his research Saturday at the American Psychological Association's annual meeting in Orlando, Fla.

This article dated October 13, 2010, relays that a dying girl was cyberbullied by adult neighbors and is receiving support from across the world. Kathleen only 7 years of age was heartlessly bullied by grown people (male and female) who made fun of her illness (degenerative brain disease) by putting harmful remarks on facebook and gory paintings on their vehicle to taunt and torment her. There is no information listed as of today in this article if the little girls is still alive her mom passed approximately one year prior of the same malady and her grandmother was or is taking care of her if she is still alive.
Based on the nature of how far and low some people will subject a little one to on the internet of all places … I would recommend putting them under the jail if I had the authority to do so. I don’t like people who torture and torment children…well behaved children should stay in their place and not try to attack grown up and vice versa. I recommend that laws be put into effect immediately to halt and correct this behavior….community service if they have no money…get there the best way they can…fines if they are able to pay….just administrate some type of punishment for this type of cruel torture and mental anguish they make people suffer unnecessarily.
Thank you.
Felicia
