Lucille Miller

(Grandmother of Mine)

A wonder of wonder she was barely five foot two and yet she carried a stick big

Authoritarian and stick she only needed to look at you once and receded as tide leaves

Reared in the southern states she was taught the correct manner of relationships between the races and passed it fruitfully on to us (mom and self)

She worked as a cook, laundress and raised her children by herself making sweet breads, biscuits, cookies, alamode sweet, jerky until she moved North for a chance to get her children educated and to safety

Leaving with references, good tidings (gifts and money) from her employer she came to Saginaw where her brother told her to come and live long prosper

A dream of an education for herself became a reality true when she succeeded and received her associates in her seventies

Understanding her more now I see in my eye and I admire her for her formality, coolness, abruptness, ladyship, mannerisms, graciousness and all that made her sparkle

I love you always for you are the persona that I idolize and wish to be forever more free
