POEMS - COVERS BLOG 1 - BLOG 5

Anthony Sweet

Mischief do I see Personality of a maybem
Quicksilver is his thoughts
Limber is his heart Tenacious is his nature
To see loves chapel
Money important not be
Life good is eye stripped
Blinkers gone to reveal storm
Working bee must honey bee
By Felicia McCaw

A SWEET TRIBUTE TO MY MAN

O SWEET A THOUGHT THAT I COULD NOT SAY
WHEN HE FILLS ME MY HEART DOETH CRY WITHIN
MY LOVE OVERFLOWETH WITH THOUGHTS THAT I COULD NOT SAY
MY FLESH QUIVERS WITH CHILL BUMPS
MY FLESH BURNETH WITH UNQUENCHED DESIRES
FILL ME LOVE STILL MY THRIST
GIVE TO ME WHICH MY SOUL DESIRETH
LOVE ME STILL MY EYE
QUIETH MY DESIRE
FILL ME WITH THY FLESH
BRING FORTH THIS DESIRE THAT QUESTION NOT
By Felicia McCaw

BUTTERFLY CRY

Light as a butterfly
I flutter my wings
On every sigh I lean into the wind
Then I cry
By Felicia McCaw

LOVE

Be still O’ foolish heart
Dare you leap and twist
When your fate is so unknown
You seeketh and searcheth but will
Thou findeth what you wisheth
Or will you fade and wither away
For what thee seeketh is worthy of
Few but seeked by many
By Felicia McCaw

SADNESS
O’ such sorrow fills the heart
Wandering why makes it stop
Ceaseless beat, ceaseless twists
Why must life be so hard
And knoweth not why it
Stoppeth not this ravaging beast
Which devours the soul
And leaves it bleak
As night
 By Felicia McCaw

Foolish Heart

O’ that my heart should go faint at the sight
Of thine beloved face
That my soul should weep tears of joy
From thine nearness
Hearken unto me O’ dove of joy
That my love should flee thee not
But that I should stand steadfast in thy petals of love
O’ sweet joy that though is
Leave my side nay
But stay forever in my heart and love
Today, Yesterday & Today Forever more may they
I lovest thee now and
Forever
By Felicia McCaw

CLOSE THE M.F.DOOR

Every word a lash on my back
Mouth firm
Straighter I stand
 By Felicia McCaw

Chained Poet

If a poet cannot be free
What is he
But a fool with a chain around his neck
See not him but
Hear his verse
Sweet of tongue
Questioning him not
For far along he travels
On a quest that he may not win
Fallen from thine eye
Tears shed free
 By Felicia McCaw

Poor and Wretched

Poor man walks the street
Bare and cold is he
Feet shod in sleet
Face cold and meek
Life barren and dear
Soul cold and weary
Goal to survive is he
Life toil heavy and deep
Seep into his soul despair deep
Mean are the people to him
Savage and cruel are they to he
Till death comes to free
By Felicia McCaw

Sirens

Call I hear the siren far and near
Who has died now or has trouble deep
Below is a meadow with deep furlows
To receive aplenty of those who sleep
Sweet and low is it to keep
For those who fly away and whose graver may never seep
Fly away my dear and near one
Least I come near and have no heap
Torn and am I for their is no one to peep
My love one was one to keep me on seat
Sorry I am that no one carer
Believe me sweet I live today
For yesterday I have no Monday
But sad am I that I cannot see
My life is not a melody
No music in life I have not today
Far and near I cannot be
My life is a yesteryear with you not near
Nights aflame with sadness I cannot end this madness that took you from here
By Felicia McCaw

Prejudice

Cruel a fate this be
That tomorrow's man cannot be
Nothing as thin air is he
Regard for one as naught they say
Look South and North Far and wide
East and West Torn inside are those troubled deep
Helpless to those as cruel
Yield not a strong Steel rod he be
Willow is to bend Wind is have no end
Soon morrow come Free of this pain come soon
Breaks again and again they say
Proud looks remain is those troubled
No one else carries the shame
Others hate carries the blame
Sorrow will be their game
By Felicia McCaw

INSIGHT

Eyes open shut then open
See a morrow's moon
Far fetched they say is life
Truth will come to you
Rivers of pain ride deep
Accusers heart will not seep
Sorrow's heart gallop free
Never to be ridden is the way to see
Sun and gloom gather deep
Thoughts are questing and flowing wide
Mouths opening wide shutting
Truth flays a person wide
Step away from the tide
 By Felicia McCaw

 DOVES CRY

Petals of loves joy
Opening shyly they will
A sweet lover tryst
Meadows sweet beckons some
Clasped in my lover's arm I see or hear nothing world
Involved in life most secret nest
Tremble and sway my bones become nay
I flow I tremble I quack
Stomach pains me hunger fierce
Thought of time have no meaning
Pleasure so swift that doves cry
Tears sparkle within my eye
I clasp his neck like chain
Trembles ripped my soul apart
Hide no more I cannot
Revealed my sweet sinful sweet
Past times of the pleasure denied long
No one with key to open door
Revealed am I not to all
Only sweet one can make doves cry
By Felicia McCaw

 Loves Quest

Such a man is he
Defies the mold you sea
Grace and firm he walks
Makes my thought flight and roam
Heart pound like thunderously chariot
Loins quiver with lightening flashes
Faint am I till I cry
Resurrect me with thy kiss
Rip my threads bare
Ravish me and fill me true
Lips parched I cannot deny
Savage beat mating song
Soul flys on hurricane swirl
Same I never be
By Felicia McCaw

Crime and Passion

Unstill Night Listen to the cry of the sirens
What goes on now? Crime and passion fly with wings
Thoughts unseen deeds cruel
Mean as fire flesh and blood
Lightening flash stabbing chair
Cry inside my eyes dare
Listen not please fall alive
Hands quiver and shake
Bowed head with sorrow's need
 By Felicia McCaw

 CITY HALL

Enter the door dark, gloom
Stricken with repetition
What do you see?
Reptilians slide around
Hiss, Hiss they go we gossip
Dark nests everywhere
Intrigue and mysteries abide
Trouble sport for all
Vicious tongues flay all near
Sin abound within the door
Lustful thoughts flood the gates
Mean and cruel they be to customer's fall
Co-workers beaten down and torn assunder
Slap slap goes the whipping hand
Evil looks at the fool at helm
Ground his bounds they wish be
Stricken with drought ugly follow
Who would follow a fool like he
Not I say me all agree
Rot and stupid his brain be
Not only him this affliction set
Twiddle dee and dumb aplenty
Caution to all who enter shy
Before you bat your eye
No eye left to comfort sight
Enter quick and business conduct
Flee with wings of Pan
Least quicksilver swallow
O' City Hall why by cruel
By Felicia McCaw

 City of Saginaw

City of nowhere seen
Small and foul it be
Black nougats abide crazy day
Fumes of soil emit they
Spinning around merry foul
Crazed become all
Forked tongues the way
Batter and splatter all with virtue they do
Slash crash comes the verbal lash
Pain reverberate from a back no more
Righteous anger fill pride
Stand with sword hide
See me not I come to thee
Slick and cruel I will be
Learn your ways I have seen
Lesson teach you will be
For God say forsake the fool
May you lose your sole
Keen of thought know sin
Run fight retreat come again
Finish this fools quest
Maybe you see your least
Riddle until the end of time
I repeat not least I rhyme
Look over shoulder fool
Life is good and so is cruel
 By Felicia McCaw

 SWEET FELICIA

Face round as the moon
Eyes shade of liquid brown
Breast full as a mirage
Strong and straight her back
Tenacious as a porcupine heart
Tender as a baby skin
Loving as deep as the ocean blue
Secret as the deep lagoon
Elusive as a dream gone
Changeable as flicker of time
Serious mein her face
Thoughts fleeting and swift
Predictable as future time
Loyal as a clock set
 By Felicia McCaw

Stormy Monday

Each day passes into gloom
Old men passing along
Shifting Kaleidoscopes flew
Clocks tick tock back to back
Worker sad and unhappy
Conflict flew in desert storm
Battalion grounds established
White flag flew
Run run fast as a dear
Never return to desert storm
Sorry a day came Stormy Monday
By Felicia McCaw

 BLACK SEBASTIAN
(The lover of her life and soul)

Hair straight as night rainfall
Eyes hard predatory sherry
Nose straight as green blade
Lips full and puffs of cruel snap
Teeth like strong pearls
Chin carved and square
Neck strong as pillar
Tongue like a whipping adder
Shoulders broad as tomorrow
Chest muscled and carved
Waist an stomach flat and trim
Brawny arms strong enough to crush
Hands strong and hard firm
Thighs carved with muscles writhing and
twisting with each step Impatient as swirling whip
Growls emit deep within
Conceit rich as cream
Spoiled is he
Calves splendid as flash fire
Feet beautiful and free I see him in my eye
Thought of him make me sigh
Discontent fills me because it cannot be
Eyes wide I look and see
Blink blink I cannot believe
Breath rush hard and heave heave
Mind awhirl with thoughts that should not
Plead with fate make it so
Fear abound and twirl and roll
Pride set aside as a foolish year
Kiss thee and float on roses swift
Touch him and I burn aflame atorch
Liquid is mind and bones that melt away
Jackass I used to be of famine pleasure
Heels dug deep as ravine fathom
Till I see he and my knees fail me
Waves of crescendo hit me crash
Hide and shelter I cannot find
Flow with him as two rivers merge thunderously
Passion's lure has caught me unaware
Craves of hunger fill my belly pain
Pain of pleasure run through my soul
Tears sparkle in my eyes
Eyes full of rainbow's of hope
Love found I cannot but sigh
Lost forever in his arms
Stir me not for I cannot be
Souls atwine never part

Breeze Come What May

A sad lonely breeze passed this way
Seeking a small little hand
Smile wide as graceful dawn
Twirl little one twirl
Little feet dance on air
Small hands all aglitter
Grace of this small one amaze
Who belong to this little one sweet
Mama and Dad proud of this blessed sugar bee
All who see fall under her spell ocean wide

Music Free

Ever hear a melody's cry
Black dots aplenty believe
See how they dance on paper
Trickle trickle a note goes
Embrace the ear sweet as gold
Soul dance and spin waves wide
High and low soft and loud
Fingers trail tenderly down
Play the song of dots pave
Yellow brick we all follow
Heels click and away we go
Thrills and chills slide down
Music free for all who care

Photographer's Eye

Peep peep in little hole
Vision grace the sky
Unbelievable sight I must capture
Flash fleeting gone forever
Try try I must capture all
Greedy I am for all sights
Illusion fool the unknown
Realist see through true
Eyes bubble as untethered stream
Roam freely traipsed everywhere
Universe my playground space
Dance with glee I capture prey
Thrills of elation fill me full
My photographer's eye fail me not
Sights unseen I need desperately
Travel far and near I will go

 Dreams of Sleep

Rock a bye a weeping willow
Cradle of arms I desire
Peaceful slumber evade me
Dreams vivid, clear and lucid
Profound and deep I find them
Rivers of ocean enthrall me
Waves choppy and smooth dance
Wakeful nights are free to all
Next night comes slumber deep
Peaceful dreams of sleep seduce
No longer flip and flop condemn me
Rest of night cradle as may
Quiet and restful don't disturb
My eyes slumber anyway

Blog Entry #3

This Week's Assignment consisted of Reading three chapters in WW (Ch.6,7 & 8), Reading of "The Negro Speaks of Rivers", "Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town", BAP poems on Pages 21, 23, 24, 26 & 27, and Goldberg 75 - 111. After further reading in the selection "Writing down to the bones" this conveys more details about writing as follows:

DON'T TELL, BUT SHOW

This reflects that a writer has to breath life into a story when expressing emotion. Also, that as a writer when installing feelings in your work - stay in direct connection with the senses.

BE SPECIFIC

Always be detail oriented and be specific always and realize that a writer becomes the subjects in his/her writing. (All at once and then now.)

BIG CONCENTRATION

This section deals with learning to concentrate by not being blocked and being open. Most writers are single-minded, focused and had to learn to concentrate and stay focused on the task at hand.

THE ORDINARY AND EXTRAORDINARY

A writer should look at the ordinary and extraordinary as a boon that gives meat and potatoes to his project. Always remember details, details, details are paramount of importance and helps make the writing flow easier.

TALK IS THE EXERCISE GROUND

A writer's advantage is talk, talk, talk and that is it helps find new directions and help defeat writer's block.

WRITING IS A COMMUNAL ACT

Writing is a communal act and allows others to participate in the process. Expand your conscious and consider all people's opinion and reflect them. Also, get together with others for moral support and let your fingers fly like wings over the paper.

ONE PLUS ONE EQUALS A MERCEDES BENZ

The goal of a writer is to disappear and
become the character in the story or whatever writing project that is being done.

BE AN ANIMAL

When in Rome do as Romans do - that is what writing is all about - merge in and allow the flow of creativity to take over. Also, learn to time self and try to establish whether or not you can write under pressure or with an actual deadline. Never give up - if you don't succeed try again until you do so. Bring it. Stalk the city for any and all writing ideas or whatever.

MAKE STATEMENTS AND ANSWER QUESTIONS

This sections deals with learning to make a statement then follow up with a question to obtain more information and data about a situation. Always make clear affirmative statements to keep on track and question, question on to find out as much as you can. Get on a higher tier -- let your mind roam and gather all the information you can get.

THE ACTION OF A SENTENCE

This section deals with verbs and nouns and how to use them interchangeably within sentences because these are the framework for paragraphs and eventually books.

WRITING IN RESTAURANTS

This section deals with writing in a restaurant and how this is a great place to relax and write. It is a little unusual but try to develop a rapport with the restaurant and you may have a perfect place that may alleviate writer's block or just be a place of writer's curiosity. Once a writer develops "writer curiosity" it is a state where everything will inspire him/her.

THE WRITING STUDIO

This place like every nook a writer likes to be quiet and not distracted. It becomes almost like a "holy place" where no one is wanted unless invited. It is the place where imagination takes wing and fly.

A BIG TOPIC: EROTICISM

This topic is probably where a lot of writers sit and decide how to approach without stepping over the edge. Dis- cretion is always good...know where to draw the line...keep specifics about topic and writing, revise later.

A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN TOWN

This section deals with how a person can be right in their own hometown and be be a tourist. But this can be reversed by giving the place you live a second chance and start exploring where you are and start writing about ordinary and everything.

WRITE ANYPLACE

Be comfortable, take a notebook with you always...scribble, scribble...never let a thought escape. Train and learn to focus anywhere, block out the noise and receive stimuli from anyone or anywhere. Test yourself and try different angles, different places don't let anything stop you. Write away and float as your thought and words.

2 1/2 notes on poems

Notes on poems

ROOFERS

This poem relays a clear reflection and not of what it takes to a do a roofing job. It gives great detail in visualization skills and reflect the duty of each roof. It gives a comparison of "shingles slapping the ground like a clown's feet" which is a clearly a clever analogy and gives it very credence and influence to the great William Shakespeare himself. "Great rolls of thunder, the roof of heaven cluttered with gods" are clear reflections of usage of a mix of hyperbole and a paradox. This poem reflects the author's love of poetry and his reference of W. Shakespeare as his mentor. It also reflects the workers know their job and take pleasure in doing a good job and know how to work in harmony toward completing the job accurately and quick. Author also uses a simile that states "the eye is like the Important God" which I believe means that god is omniscient and he further states that his imaginary world that he views is not real and I believe he has fear for the future doe his living in another world.

THE BOOK OF STEVE

This poem starts off with a misrepresentation that is known as a paradox. The author discuss the very possibility of the creation of Adam and Eve and further states what if this was possible, proven but not recorded and in the lost books of the bible He goes on to imply that maybe this is possible...no real evidence points otherwise. Concrete & Abstract images are reflected in this poem as well as the duties that had to been done. In the form is an illusion that their may have been some form of sexual contact between the ants or someone else hidden in the text and that Adam and Steve was in charge of the animals. Usage of similes are intermingled in the poem and reflects that with all situations their will be shifting of responsibility and complaints and destruction of books by others. It reflects that Steve was moved from the Book of Steve (given a helpmate that was not fruitful) and allowed to go to another quadrant due to a brief inference in poem and reflects the usage of similes.

FROM THE BOY’S OWN BOOK

This poem starts with an idea that a boy could defy actual time itself and that time is relattively of no significance to him. A student of nature is the child who plays games to test the force of gravity itself. Similes is used to reflect the nature of child who possibly has a very scientific nature enjoys doing his own tests on gravity while doing chores or in his free time. Hidden messages and obvious listed in this poem which uses concrete and abstract images and analogy to bring about a point that young do as young do although now that he is older restrictions needed. Further relayed that a person must walk the straight and narrow to receive and enjoy life's rewards of prosperity. Furthermore, although the young man daredevil games -- he stopped while his brother continued to his death.

A pack of cards is like a garden because they both serve a purpose - one to use in play and entertainment and a garden provides enjoyment, entertainment and substance to live.

Sealing wax is like a soldier because a soldier is trained to stand firm like a melted wax that evolves to sealing wax.

Man is like a burning candle because a candle burns and dwindles and so does a man who dies slowly each day and dwindles as times goes on.

THE GREAT AMERICAN POEM

This poem starts out with abstracts that brought no images to mind and allegories are being used to reflect the author proceeding in a narrative fashion. The author states that as in a novel a character and framework to portray a scene that would enthrall the reader to continue to turn pages would be needed. The poem is relaying in a definite tone what this artwork is about and that it is a poem that has a hidden agenda and challenges the reader to find out what is being written or being said. It reflects the author's wish to ensue a battle of wits ..of his thoughts vs yours with yourself and him in an imaginary room which will disappear after a few more lines. This poem and author is challenging the reader to confirm his thought on the scenario do you agree or not that through it all no one really cares. That the expectation of better things of life are needed immediately and the need for peace is a tangible as eating an orange.

THE SONG OF AMERICA

This poem reflects the issue of discerning right and wrongs done between siblings and the need of a child to not follow in their footsteps, accept the norms of society, to listen objectively, to view and analyze the need for war and understand that conflict between people will eventually resolve itself, become an educator and help those with special issues. Further, this poem also states that this child is being raised to help peasants overcome the stigma and affliction of a lack of a proper education. It also reflects that the child is being raised to keep chin up even though the hurt is deep inside and retain good morals. This poem also reflects how dangerous it is to see, hear and be in the wrong place at the right time and how important it is for that child to get away from people (bad factor) as quick as possible and to be truthful as possible.

This poem is a narrative format that reveals and hides but reflects the need for all parents to train and raise a child properly.

Notes on poems

FRUED

This poem is rather unusual with several contradictions. It reflects to me that contact has been lost with mom and that she has been tramped on, criticized by the younger generation and rejected by the son. Private thoughts in poem by author analyzing relationship (son & mom) based on Freud's theories.

Troubled relation between son & parents - indication of abuse

and son lack of wishing to put up with the abuse anymore.

Therapy received and reception eagerly welcomed.

Also, there is a lot of play on words throughout - unclear and clear - dad has been retired out of son's life.

Abstract, Concrete, Analogy, Allegory,

APPARITION

This poem reflects that traditions are being forgotten and norms discarded. Also, that as times goes by a person (elderly person) becomes apathetic and tired of trying to continuously fight and then life changes channels and meets youth. A refreshing change that stirs interest in life torn and almost gone but living true to his life the young man perceived as a country "hick" brings to life a strange thing that he has become the poem and the poem he.

Analogy, Concrete, Metaphor

HOW IT WILL END

This poem reflects the nature of man to be invasive and speculatory in situations that don't concern them. Indicated is the reading of false signals and poorly attributing their interpretations and then subsequently coming to an argument themselves about the scenario by revealing characteristics in each other that they dislike and the start of making it a personal vendetta against each other. Consequently, this poem just let you know that "a person's business" is everyone business.

Concrete, Allegory, Hyperbole

GETTING SERIOUS

This poem reflects that most people are doing a lot of soul searching (looking for salvation) which I feel the author or writer is doing so. The author's need for being right with God is tantamount an uppermost and is also a priority of other people also.

Further reflected is as we age we become absent-minded, forgetful, unsure and uncertain and also reflected is the author's past and present with good deeds done as well as questionable deeds.

Metaphor, Concrete, Analogy

BLACK SNAKE

This poem brings the image of a frightening scenario of a poisonous snake that appears from nowhere rippling, slippery with menace. Danger and sure death quick vile cold with pain is sure to come with bite. Also, this poem just reflects that no matter how secure a house is kept danger is always lurking around the corner. Further, relayed is that a snake can shed its skin - but will it ever change? Transparent trappings dark clear and yet the nature is empty like the author unknown, unfathomable because it reflects a difference each time.

Concrete, Paradox, Analogy

MacLeish vs Dickson - Comparison

MacLeish vs Dickson - Comparison posted by Felicia McCaw Sun May 16 18:04:06 2010

MacLeish vision on poetry in my opinion is that a poem can signify many small and great things. It can personify itself and manifest and be evolved to relay many intriguing factors of life.

Dickinson vision on poetry is to relay a secret message of how truth is perceived and how it can be relayed to astound and confound the many.

It appears they both approach poetry in a fashion to reveal that poetry is not based on fiction but is a true art form that is worked at and achieved, but still holds mysteries that have to be investigated and thoroughly studied to gain the full meaning of a poet's heart and vision of the world.

Discussion on Poem - "WHEN I HEARD THE LEARN'D ASTRONOMER

WHEN I HEARD THE LEARN'D ASTRONOMER posted by Felicia McCaw Sat May 22 19:53:37 2010

This poem reflects a subject who is a learned astronomer versed and trained and an associate to assist. The concrete imagery is reflected throughout the poem with proofs, figures, situated in neat columns, charts and diagrams which are the lifeblood of an astronomer's life. The very detailed and precision necessary in his profession is like having water in a lake. A lake cannot be if there is no water. Can it?

Also, at the beginning of the poem is a little sarcasm "learn'd astronomer", e.g., if he is so learned why does he need me to check his work. Further, there appears to be a streak of jealously relayed since the assistant or associate who had to check the work became ill for no accountable reason due to probably his feeling of not being acknowledged as a team player who contributed to the project.

All the time the assistant or associate had to endure the applause, applause the astronomer received whilst he received none. After enduring the lecture for as long as he could he left (to be alone licking his wounds) with a sense of being wronged and stood looking at the stars in perfect silence in the mystical moist night-air and peaceful quietness without having to hear the astronomer drone on and on.

These are my thoughts on this poem that sometimes in America although you assist just don't expect to get the credit you deserve also.

Discussion on Poem - "MENDING WALL"

MENDING WALL posted by Felicia McCaw Sat May 22 20:46:33 2010 MENDING WALL

This poem reflects concrete imagery throughout, maybe a couple of metaphors and is an allegory.

Starting out the poem reflects anger (reverberating under the surface of civility) as indicated by "Something there is" doesn't love a wall - whoever destroyed the wall is now known as "Something there is" now. The anger is cold, hostile but controlled and slowly seething to have to repair damage to his fence on a continuous basis. Diplomacy is used with neighbors to meet about fence but unknowingly to the owner of the fence...no one wants to own to destroying it by putting gaps in at will down the line of his fence.

This poem reflects a lot of narrative relayance of character and events in throughout. It reflects a conflict over a fence that will never be resolved because all his neighbor will state "Good fences make good neighbors" which is a little intimidating because there is no conversation just this repeated "grunt". The owner of the fence is trying to keep the situation light or lighten the situation with a little levity but is failing miserably.

The very motions of his neighbor is running shivers of fear down his back because the image reflects him walking with two stones grasped in each hand and moving stealthy around continuously grunting "Good fences make good neighbors".

This is my interpretation of this poem and it is clearly a problem everywhere in this country (America) of neighbor clashing with neighbor over their little piece of earth they own.

1 1/2 Goldberg Theory-week 1

GOLDBERG - THEORY DISCUSSION 1-38 posted by Felicia McCaw Sun May 16 18:27:54 2010 In retrospection of thought, I read the narration of Goldbergs' Book "Writing Down the Bones" and it gave a introduction that puts the reader on a friendly rapport and begins to direct them into direction of writing poetry.

This book helps direct you in the step of being a writer and what it takes to get there. It begins with there is no logical way to become a good writer only the steps in how to begin with an open mind and take up pen and paper and go and let flow. Writing is an expression of self and not a timed exercise...it is a way of letting the mind flow and go and let the pencil or pen follow. As indicated in her book practice, practice makes perfect or not...it is your continued effort toward achieving your goal that matters...will I make it or not...am I intimidated and if I am what can I do about it. This selection of reading covers what a person needs to do to take that intimidation and turn it around and make it a positive instead of negative and go for what you know and don't know.

Continuing on she states that one of the main aims in writing practice is to learn to trust your own mind and body and not be impatient and aggressive. Seek out many topics, try the ones that intrigue you first then go to the ones that interest you the least and learn to expand writing habits from the experience. Never worry about talent or capability that will increase as you get more knowledgeable and experienced.

Always strive and don't retreat but proceed and push further and further until your talent as writer increases.

Blog Entry #2

This Week's Assignment consisted of Reading three chapters in WW (Ch. 3, & 5), Reading of "The Learn'd Astronomer", "Mending Wall", BAP poems on Pages 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19, and Goldberg 39 - 74. After further reading in the selection "Writing down to the bones" this conveys more details about writing it relays in relaxed fashion of how to start writing by just taking it slow and allow yourself to crawl then walk. The next session centered on obsessions and how to take those obsession and turn into a writer's project because you are already familiar with the project.

Next, it emphasized on using details and the power of details and how important they are when right...accuracy is always needed. The section on baking a cake indicated how important it is to gather all the ingredients and help them mesh together for a final project. Living twice indicated that writers have lived before and now they can compile their efforts into a finished project that they can be proud of. This section explores the writer's good figure and I believe that it means that a writer's ability and readiness to explore their writing talents will be reflected by their body posture and quickness to get those "thoughts" down on paper. Next, came the section on listening that is one of the most important details for a writer ... if you don't listen...then a lot of details are lost (Listening requires a person to be receptive at all times)

The next section came "Don't marry the Fly" this entails or makes the writer responsible for keeping his focus on what he/she is working and not to let attention wander. Next came the "Don't use writing to get love" this entailed just stay yourself always and be true to your profession and not get the "big head". The section on "what are you deep dreams" explores what is it that a writer wishes to accomplish and further explores this avenue. "Syntax" explores a different approach toward writing to get rid of our fortunate "writer's block".

The last section that I read was "Nervously sipping wine" this section dared the budding writer to reach out into absurdity and let rip with some new ideas.

My additional notes on poems

BLOG 1 1/2
BAP P.1 (Abstract)
They Knew What They Wanted

This poem to me is that "they knew" and yet "they did not". It reflects both positive aspects and negative aspects of life but touched on all facets briefly and reflect that with all humans we are viewed as useful for a time and expendable when our usefulness is at end.

P. 3 (Concrete)
Beasts & Violins

This poem reflects a man who unfortunately was invasive and read his ex-girlfriend's diary and learned her summation of his character and the reason why their relationship broke up. I guess he found his true worth reflected in her diary was a very small insignificant part and because he discovered how she felt he felt vindicated by destroying her written thoughts about him. He further learned that she thought his behavior was too controlling and this subsequently lead to the breakdown in their relationship.

P. 5 (Concrete)
Concerning the Land to the South of Our Neighbors to the North

This poem is rather interesting and reflects a rather wry, dry crackling wit. I read through all of it and was amused by his very flippant and rather attention grabbing style. It compels the reader to a level of I must "read the rest" level. Interesting approach.

P. 8 (Abstract & Concrete)
Ringtone

This poem reflects a possible massacre at a college university and reflects the utter devastation caused by such that the students who had been killed still had their cell phones and calls were still incoming but unfortunately no one would ever be there to answer again.

P.9 (Abstract & Concrete)
The Doctor

This poem reflects a doctor practicing medicine and of a patient and his reading his patient's ailments as a seafarer would read a map. Questioning, checking, looking and probing to find the endless quest of their profession to find the ailment and alleviate it.
BLOG ENTRY 1

This Week's Assignment consisted of Reading three chapters in WW (Ch. 1, 2 & 15), Reading of "ARS Poetica", "Tell all the Truth but Tell it Slant", BAP poems on Pages 1, 3, 5, 8 & 9, and Goldberg 1 - 38. I enjoyed the reading selection in "Writing down to the bones" and felt it relayed many insights on how to a be a writer and how to express thoughts that a person may have. The book relayed many insights into the writer's personality and youth and it was very refreshing and like an introductory handshake or like a user friendly dialogue that helps develop a rapport with the reader.
