The Robin’s Eyes is Always Aglow

Inspired by The Robin by Thomas Hardy located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Sitting aloft in tree of high with red breast of full he watched with clear eyes of sharp

Smiling within and out he clicked his little claws of joy looking at the sky of shine

Flying Flying in sky of cheery red hearts he stopped and drank bathing wings in dipped sugar drops of sweet

Frosty winter is lean sometimes mean when the earth hides the meal under cold of snow making Robin’s eye aglow with search search

Unhappy at the chase of all for food fulfilled the snow falleth falleth until hide to warm his cold shivery feathers
