The Mermaid of San Antonio Sea

Inspired by The Mermaid and The Merman written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Lost in repose she sat on stone rush of ocean clear singing songs of rival destruction
Fair of feathers rival sun of moon even the sky glimmered and sang of beauty too fair
Hair of silk fine coarse reflected lights of shimmer through beams of lights rainbow received strokes of many turns and go
Leaping and jumping through waves of thump thump she propelled in air of crystal purple blue with windfalls of color true
Flicking tail of silky fins she waved it friendly at Merman bold of heavy crown of gold
Putting shell of conch to mouth of petal soft she blew the call of siren’s song to all ships of pass
Elation circling the air of thick swarmy heat climbing the levels of high to reveal the thought they come they come closer closer to doom doom doom
For a mermaid seen is a sailor’s lost soul for her claim claim claim to gold gold gold all she bring to misfortune’s song
