ENG315 - WEEK 9 - DISCUSSION 9

"Getting the Job"

As the video titled “Melissa Forman – Hilarious Resume Typos” (4 min 55 s) located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FClWySJ6Sxs demonstrates it is very important to avoid mistakes when writing resumes and cover letters. Think back over your background and job history. What types of messaging have you used that are related to “finding” and “obtaining” employment? Some examples may include: job application cover letters, thank you notes, job-acceptance letters, recommendation requests, and others. Based on the video you watched, determine what the protocol is in your field or area of interest, and ascertain what makes an effective messaging tool. Please share relevant experiences anecdotes from your work life.


Some of the messages and inquiries I have done include letters that I call “feelers”.  What I mean by “feelers” is they are like a simple inquiry to ascertain if a possibility exist that an opening may be available that fits my talents, interests, goals and ideas for changing the future.

In relation to a job opening I have also attached my resume with my introduction letter which is relative to selling myself, my ability to evolve a position and bring forth a unique progression to our momentous future and futuristic processing of details.  Also, with that in mind comes the thank-you for the opportunity to participate in an interview and a gracious acceptance letter for the position.

Some of the protocols in my field would be stimulating, interest gaining and progressive study to increase and evolve present state of learning culminative experience and thereby imbed new consequential changes that change previously held points.  My position at the City of Saginaw offered the opportunity to interpret, process and change information pertinent to property that sold or changed hands in the city.  With that came the day of structuralizing documents, forms, how-to-book and other tasks that made interpreting easier to be done and made life more tolerable in a work filled office.

Also, is my eternal quest to learn the nuances in the English language and its ability to cloak weapons in text and theory.  My site is indeed a stance for rights and acknowledgment of difference and agreeably thankfulness of equality offered at my website (feliciaswritingjournal.blogspot.com/) as well as encouragement that the heavens don’t end and the stars still beckon to explore within and without.  My site is indeed a living portfolio that grows and grows and is indeed my presentation to the world to show my gold and willingness to take a chance and learn to grow and view all cultures in a respective fashion.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

I agree that networking is an excellent way of promoting self or any endeavor.  But I feel that an elevator speech is not quite right but I feel having a true representation of yourself will get your foot in the door.  People know a repetitive line when they hear it.

Further, I agree gain the interest, gains speculation and consideration and a possible yes.  Note, don't give recommendations until you get the job.  I also agree that a professional resume is a must because this is your professional performance that reflects your life in the workfield, and informal assessment of experience and knowledge.  Neatness, pleasing appearance, error-free and criteria wanted moves a person further upward in line for an interview.  I also agree that a solid impression makes you memorable and intriguing.  Further I find if I am intrigued then I am sold.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

I agree a flawless resume is just what it is.  But what brings a resume to life is the criteria and approach the employer is looking for.  Sometimes it is like reading between the lines.  When it comes to reading body language it gets risky and it is reflective and reactive to the interviewer.  Understanding how to interview will bring forth what is needed.

Dress is not a true consequence but an act of bias is reflective when the interviewer cuts down a co-applicant to another applicant and therefore renders a state of lack of objectivity.

Abilities are great, but professionalism is what will make it in my eye.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

Interviews are different everywhere you go and the people who conduct the specialized talk sessions are either going to be formal or informal based on the educational status and upbringing.  As advised suit and tie is appropriate but it does not decide the nature of the person if the position requires a uniform only.  Mistakes show indeed a lack of care and attendance and should cause remorse or make one double check their work to make a close to flawless approach.  Further these seemingly little bitty mistakes leave a “residue” of bias and criticism.
