ENG315 - WEEK 8 - DISCUSSION 8

Creating power point presentations:

This week, you'll be working on creating a power point presentation on the justification report you've just turned in. One new, added feature about the presentation is that, since this is an on line class, you need to do the presentation by adding a voice over to the power points. If, for any reason, you're unable to add narration, you need to at least use the Notes section in power point to present your information.

Have you created power point slides before?
What are key tips you want to share in creating power points?
Have you used the voice over feature before?
Have you used the Notes section before?
Have you presented in front of an audience? How do you feel about that?
Please share your thoughts on any of these or anything else you can think of on creating power point presentations.

Yes, I have been exposed to power point slides.  I had to use power point slides in my class at Delta – History Class, and in my Social Work classes and in my English class.

My tips are as following:

Display is clarity
Winning the sale is based on a visual and motivating pitch
Practice makes perfect
Don’t give up – look at the presentation as if you are someone else when completed
Always remember the goal – remember me and my product

If it has changed since I had a class six or seven years ago then I am new to the voice over feature.  I don’t recall the notes section but I will get it down and done.  Yes, I have presented in front of an audience.  Comfortable, is how I feel because I am the product and my goal is to sell it.  Always think of power point slides as your best friend because they are like a trigger and let yourself go.

Thank you.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

I agree simplicity helps all keep on the same page and keeps clarity precise.  Words are triggers this I also agree with that grows to explanations and paragraphs and relaying of themes.  Face to face or virtual is lively but having the audience helps iron out all details and gives an opportunity to explain more by instant interaction.

Good luck also.

Thank you.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

I appreciate your key points and your note about overcrowding and the highlights and theme of the presentation.  Presentation, viewing and gaining and holding the interest is the goal of all power point presentations.  I am new to the voice but I find this a new challenge to try and achieve.  Just think of this the audience will probably pay your salary one day and always be good to your money.  The audience is your friends and associates and always treat them right.

Thank you.

RESPONSE TO CO-STUDENT

All you have to do is remember that the power point presentation is a part of you and speak slowly and concisely.  Everyone gets nervous but think of it like this…this is me and I love what I am working with.  Also, practice the voice and it will probably intrigue and make you try it again and again.

Thank you.
