CRJ320 - WEEK 2 - DISCUSSION 2

"Have I Recorded Everything I Was Supposed to?"

Please respond to the following:

Per the text, effective criminal investigators take notes of not only detailed information about the crime but generalized information that may or may not be relevant to the crime they are investigating. Refer to figure 2.15 “Recreation of a homicide shooting” in Chapter 2 of the textbook and determine the information (important and generalized) that you would take for your crime investigation report. Be sure to classify each piece of information as being either important or generalized. Provide a rationale for your chosen pieces of information and the classification to which you identified them.

Recreation of a Homicide Shooting

For my report the first items noted would be notes on the situational scenario, e.g., Descriptive picture of scene – Two persons lying on back in a northern direction with person “A” situated next to couch approximately less than a foot from it with a gun (9mm) in right hand (physical traits noted are significantly taller than person “B”, younger, fit, muscular, dirty and unkempt, black, undernourished), person “B” older, toned, clean and clean shaven, dressy clothing, black and regular fed with no weapon in hand.

Scene reveals casings (exterior of bullets – possible 38 or 32 may have been used as well as a 9 mm) on floor in front of A & B and at foot of B and behind door with a full bullet at B’s foot.

Hypothesis

Due to parabolic arch assumption is made that these shots (bullet holes in storage cabinet – bottom) were made by B when collapsed because his left hand is outreached and proportioned correct before falling. Assumption is made that A & B were surprised and interacted with an intruder(s) (max 2 - tight confines in room) and were subsequently gunned down.

In support of analyzation of scene the following is done:

1. Digital picture or detailed graphic sketch (triangulate scene – tip of camera photography -Head of victim veer always in Northern perspective and discuss from tip down.) Then pan camera to look for evidential clues tangible to determining acts or actions that allowed the active criminological actions to occur as well as support the hypothesis. Secure details or clues by close up pictures.
2. Protect scene with nothing moved or adjusted.
3. Measure distance from door to bodies (A & B) to determine range of shot and direction.
4. Scale to estimate distance from victims as well as directional penetration.
5. Search for clues and label (prints, possible robbery, door lock violated, disorder or neatness to determine intent, DNA sampling (congealed blood - acidity smell means occurred at least two days ago), look for possible blood sampling in hallway, look for bridge between the two sampling if found, look for possible drug paraphernalia (pipe, weed), hardcore drugs, commercialized products, scent or smell, phone line, computer base or laptop or both, witnesses, bystanders, bullets penetrate wall and enter another domicile (?), Who are victims?, dust for residue to prove weapons were fired by A & B.).
6. Secure all weapons (Look for B’s weapon if residue on hand) and catalog.
7. Leave and secure for return.

By writing a hypothesis of the situation or scenario this allows the generalization of a reenacted scene or scenario to attempt to explain the play of motions that occurred in this confrontation. All listed would be quite notable and correct to put in my report because if the suspects are apprehended then conclusive data has been done and stands in support for correct action. The purpose of being as thorough as possible is to not allow any incriminating evidence be overlooked or compromised. Further is the remembrance that a crime has been committed and should be looked at as an issue to be resolved with correctness and fairness.

Citizen online crime reporting has become popular in recent years but it has generated some speculation on its validity. Interpret your thoughts on the validity of self-reporting by citizens, and explain the main reasons why some people question the validity of citizen online crime reporting.

The validity of online crime reporting is probably viewed in a skeptical fashion due to the increase of fraud levied against companies, people, state and country and increased theft or intentional theft to hide acts of criminality. These acts of theft not only compromise the integrity of online reporting but it shows the prevalency of people to defraud, be corrupt, disregard that they are stealing the blood from these companies and killing jobs and people’s lives by using a system that has been created to help but is being violated and used cruelly to satisfy their own credo “They are on their own and anyone is a means to an end!”

Deceit becomes not only their name but their whole life. But to those who are honest and principled online crime reporting is their way of fighting back at those who target and know they are visitors and need protection from those who single them out as a “so-called fat and easy pigeon to devour”. Therefore, to protect all make sure every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed because they can come in the police station and do the same thing in person.
