1. List the personal strengths that you have that you believe will enable you to grow and to change, if necessary, some of the beliefs that you hold about “other”.
Personal Strengths
• Open – Easy to talk to and have a willingness to lend a hand and talk and try to help.
• Acceptance – Able to accept people for who they are, respect them as a person who
feels and hurt, understand that things happen in people’s life and not judge them.
• Willingness – Ability to not be selfish and think of self all the time and put others first and not turn anyone away.
• Trust – Be trustworthy and be able to grow, evolve and trust people in their quest to succeed.
• Knowledge – Be willing to learn as much as possible, expand and evolve, retain and upgrade what you know.
• Interest – Be willing to learn and exhibit an interest in other people. Not be narrow minded and keep the ability to see that we are all people and we all need help at some time in our life.
• Courage – Be strong and resilient and be there when someone needs you. Be the prop they need and accept the prop from others when you need it.
• Determination – Be consistent and keep on when things get tough and keep trying.
• Positive – Stay hopeful and see the light at the end of the tunnel and keep feeling that you will make it.
• Verbal – Be able to express yourself and verbally defend yourself.
2. What do you believe will be the strongest barriers to achieving change? These may be internal or external.
The strongest barriers to achieving change for me is just staying focused and staying healthy.
3. Who will be your allies as you try to redefine “other”? Where can you go for help and support?
My allies will be those described as “other” those that are not considered and are trampled upon and thrown aside as nothing. I can go to various agencies for help and support for me as well as for others.
