Inspired by Nothing written by Julie Holder located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)
A sound of reverted bellowed through a house of quiet quiet that even a dime falling would all hear
Cringing under cover of sad protection she lay she lay quiet quiet queit still still still
Again came the sound followed by mocking laughter laughter in the still still of the night
Tears of large drops of fear fear clamored falling from eye to trepidation filled eye but she lay quiet quiet
Thuds of shoes heavy with heels thudded through the hall singing too bad too bad you’re scared
Fingers clenching covers with blood gone free tightened bringing it closer closer closer the cover to neck of skinny
Again the laughter sounded closer closer closer stalking stalking stalking her with intimidation of mean
Saying prayer after prayer she said it’s nobody nobody nobody nobody nobody
Always when she be by herself the house came alive and mocked her terrifying her until day of morn
She never got up she never got up the door is secure secure secure tight tight tight tight her mind ran over over over over
Leave leave leave where where where could she go? Everywhere the same the same the same it came while she was alone alone alone
Laughing mocking her saying too bad too bad you should should have been good good good
