Pandora’s Curiosity

Inspired by Pandora, situated in D'Aulaires Book of Greek Myths, written or presented by Ingri and Edgar Parin D'Aulaire's, Delacorte Press.

Beauty of finest craft of hands of Zeus himself was she of the most delectable of delicacies

Modeled as the most delicate of sweetest clay was she by Hephaestus in the likeness of Aphrodite

Lips of red rubies of sweet berries has she and skin of the most silken of white as the most coveted white marble

Eyes of sapphires that invited the sky to dance within and linger with sweetest of compliments of her husband’s enthrallment

Air of the sweetest elixir was breathed into her by Athena and clothed was she in garments of blasé elegance

Jewels of the sparkle of the stars above graced a neck of swan with delicacy of a baby’s tenderness that brought forth a smile rivaling the sun itself

As the way of women she was insatiably curious with the gift received from Zeus himself who warned her never to open never to open

Barrage of curiosity from woman to woman who came over and over questing the content of the sealed jar and with demure refusal she responded I cannot I cannot open it nay

Epimetheus was warned to never accept a gift from Zeus but he accepted Hermes offer of Pandora’s as his future bride of heart found

Unknown to Epimetheus was that she was indeed the punishment of mortal men as well as his heart’s delight and sight of awestruck wondrousness that defied time and distance

Curiosity Curiosity unleashed by sheer boredom of adulation adulation of fawning of men over over led Pandora to open the jar and out flew the punishment of men who defied Zeus’s rule

Punishment became the true nature of men personified as they deserve it true of greed, vanity, slander, envy and all evils that had been unknown to man but became the truth revealed that hid below became as clear as blinds open

Pandora’s sweet voice cried out in horror what have I done and called hope back with such sweetness that it curved around her in sweet caress and entered the jar with docile quickness

Epimetheus came and hugged his wife firm questioning what have you done?

Pandora responded quietly meek I have allowed curiosity to rule me sweet husband everyone is being plaqued by their own evil and soon we shall not be

Epimetheus of calm foresight calmed her quick and told her quietly as Zeus probably knew hope will stay with us and be our guide and protect us from the blight that is man’s own foul soul be not afraid precious Pandora for Zeus will resolve it all soon enough
