THE HUNT FOR TOBIAS GREEN

Night cold and wet
Shards of glass filled the air
Blow sweet as hot as new thorn
Sad eyes glared around
Lumbering horses thundered past
Shrill voices filled the sky
Lass come quick don't be daft
Feet don't linger play no song to keep
Lash falling heavily past
Smoke flaring from nostrils wide
Branches whipping and tearing at our eyes
Star bright North I see
Dodge left dodge right
Zig zag zig zag I go
Sweat pouring from fevered flesh
Heart churning thump thump quick
Creep through sticks an stones
Shush shush I hear a noise
Listen listen I hear
Dogs baying in the air
Closer closer they come
No I cry I cannot return
Eyes narrow with determination
I pray strengthen me Lord
Flashes of heat fill me
Move faster and lighter I run
Shadows past me quick
Not far to go to I reach the point
Sides clenching with pain
God keep me I cannot go back
Not far now to go
Strengthen me Lord strengthen me
One last leap to go
Space beneath my feet
Land light as cat on the boat's dock
Cringe and hide beneath canvas thick
Burrow far and deep
Free from cruel punishment forever
Never go back never go back
