Trouble at School

My name is Judy and this story takes place in Salem, Oregon. It is probably rumored that in our area we have witches and other strange going ons. I live right next to Clorena Sin and we both go to St. Joseph.

It is a school for rich girls and the few who win scholarships to attend here. Nobody knew how she got the chance to go to this school and how she settles her problems.

“How on earth did that girl Clorena Sin get a chance to come to our school?” said Jane as she looked the girl up and down as she walked up the walkway.

“Maybe, she crawled on her knees and begged Mrs. Gable to let her go here.” said Connie with heavy sarcasm.

“Have you heard about her house they say it’s creepy and rundown and nobody has seen her mother in eight years! Boy! Have you seen the old fashioned clothes she wears? She wears long skirts and heavy sweaters in the summer! Every time, I see her I feel like laughing.” said Shirley, who was an exceptionally pretty girl with auburn hair, with malice and laughter in her voice and smile.

The girls were still talking by the time Clorena had almost passed them when she heard they were talking about her. Her face turned red by the time she turned around and faced them with her back straight as it could get and with her shoulders thrown back proudly said “You really get a kick out of talking about me but at least I have something you don’t. I am honest and trustworthy and I make good grades in school. My clothes may be old, baggy and long but I can say one thing they’re clean and you didn’t buy them. So, I really don’t care what you say.”

After she said that she swept on up the walkway and through the gates and went on into school with a smile on her face. She could still see the expressions on their faces, one shocked, one indignant, one with a mixed expression of amazement and rage, and now she wondered if she should have ignored them as she usually did because now she feared they would only make trouble for her but this time even worse.

Judy and Charles who were standing on the opposite side of the confrontation looked at each other and started laughing because for once the evil triplet group had been bested and for once wordless.

“What the hell are you laughing at you little bitch?" Shirley growled at Judy viciously.

“What did you say? I know you aren’t trying to fuck with me!” said Judy hissing at her with a threatening move towards her getting ready to pounce on her and pummel her.

“Just what you heard! You ain’t got shit, I’ll beat the shit out of your smart fucking ass!” said Shirley snapping back furious at being opposed.

“Hey! What’s going on out here?” said the superintendent breaking it up and pulling them apart.

They had been so busy arguing and shoving each other that they didn’t notice the lady coming towards them. Everybody who was involved didn’t say anything and became deadly silent and tried to drift away.

“I said what’s going on out here? And if you are still not willing to tell me what is going on then you will be expelled from school.” said the superintendant insistently.

Judy and Shirley were still glaring at each other. The other two girls looked at each other and nodded. Judy decided to tell her what happened.

“Shirley, Jane, and Connie were talking about Clorena Sin and she heard and told them off. I had overheard the conversation and started laughing and then Shirley called me a foul name and we started arguing and shoving each other and that’s all there was.” said Judy earnestly.

“Do you agree Shirley with what Judy just said?” asked the superintendant sternly.

“No! She is telling a lie! I never called her anything of the sort.” Shirley said smoothly with a simpering smile on her face.

“Now, I find that hard to believe you girls was so busy trying to argue and fight that you didn’t notice I was standing right behind that pillar and I heard exactly what you was saying to each other. If, I hear of you two trying to fight then you will immediately be sent home.” and after she said that she marched off.

After she left, Judy left the girls still simmering and angry that the girl would be so spiteful to call her a bad offensive name. The girls were still back there talking and all the while Shirley was glaring at Judy’s departing back.

“That old battleaxe that’s all she does is try to find something so that she can have something to talk and grumble about.” said Jane spitefully, “Now what are we going to do about Clorena and Charles?”

“We’ll fix them when we go to Saturday’s game.” said Shirley with glee.

“Coach O’Neil we can’t find our uniforms sir.” said Judy breathlessly.

“Why can’t you find your uniforms don’t you two bird brains know that you are playing in a few minutes?” the coach almost bellowed at them.

Both of the girls winced and Clorena said sadly “But, sir, we have turned the locker room upside down looking for our suits and they are not in the usual place!”

“Wait, just a minute I’ll come down and help look.” the coach said with impatience.

They went down to the locker room and searched, at first they didn’t find anything. Then they looked in the usual place and there were the suits. They looked as if somebody had dragged them through mud and let them dry.

“Who would do such a horrible thing everybody knows how important this game is to us!” said Clorena desperately.

“I bet I know who did it!” said Judy harshly.

“And, who might that be?” said the coach curiously, definitely interested and beside himself now.

“I will tell you when I have proof. But, now to get down to business what are we going to do about our suits and the game?” Judy said anxiously.

“O.K.! This is what we’ll do, we will just get the extra suits and we’ll all set and ready to go!” he said happily, all of his impatience gone now.

We went and checked on the extra suits and found them as dirty and filled with grime as our suits and sat down and cried as the coach looked on.

“Boy! When, I catch up with the jerk who did this I will personally see that they receive the punishment they deserve.” said the coach harshly. Then the coach came up with a bright idea and said “Why don’t we see if one of the younger members will lend you a suit.”

They asked two of the youngest girls who were nervous of playing ball. Both girls agreed quickly glad to be of help and gave them their suits chattering all the time.

“Let’s go get them!” said Judy with enthusiasm. Judy and Clorena went and played against the other team with aggression and between the two of them they scored 32 points. They won the game 92 to 82 thanks to Judy and Clorena. The team ran off the court cheering and congratulating each other.

“Boy! Wasn’t that a close game? It was really tough!” said Bamby with exaggeration.

“Yes, it was a tough game but I’m glad we won!” said Sarah with a happy smile.

“Judy and Clorena scored the most points.” said Barb with hero worship.

Back to School

The situation that was impossible and that took the cake and was the last thing we would put up with at school happened the next morning. Judy and Clorena had followed the evil triplets (as they were known, Shirley, Jane and Connie) since early that morning with a camera. Finally, they arrived at the school and Judy and Clorena saw that they were heading toward the lockers, after a while they saw them go into the janitor's room and get some paint. Soon there was paint splashed all over the lockers and Judy took pictures of them while Clorena said harshly “What are you doing?”

They spun around with a guilty look on their faces while Judy took pictures. Judy and Clorena turned around and started running toward the principal’s office with Shirley, Jane and Connie taking chase. In about a couple of minutes they arrived at the office.

“Hey! What’s all the commotion about?” said Mrs. Grable jokingly.

“We have proof against, Jane Montgomery, Connie Charles, Shirley Miles of doing all the “so-called” accidents and misfortunes that has been happening to us at school.” said Judy with a smug smile.

“We took some pictures while they were splashing paint all over our lockers.” said Clorena earnestly.

Mrs. Grable said seriously, “This is a serious accusation, I hope for your sake that you have enough evidence because if you don’t you will be expelled.”

The evil triplet gang entered and Jane said immediately “We don’t know anything about paint being splashed on their lockers.”

“Did I ask you anything about paint being splashed on their lockers? So, you did do it! Well, you three young ladies will be expelled and your parents will be informed about your misbehavior in school.” said Mrs. Grable sternly.

The girls looked down with a guilty expression on their faces. “No, we didn’t do anything to them.” said Jane smoothly.

Everybody looked at her knowing that she was lying and that she wouldn’t tell the truth. Connie whispered to Shirley and said “Why don’t you tell the truth? You are only going to get us in more trouble.”

“Shut up! Just shut up, you are really blowing it!” Shirley exclaimed harshly.

“What do you mean, blowing it? I’m going to tell them the truth and say it was all your idea.” said Connie in a trembling voice.

“You, traitor! You, turncoat, so you will betray me! Well, If I get kicked out then you will also!” said Shirley angrily.

Connie and Jane left Shirley there while she kept on raving, calling them foul names and everything she could think of. Connie went over and told Mrs. Grable the truth.

“We admit that we did everything that they said. We splashed paint on the lockers and harassed them. We all did it together and Shirley was the one who thought of all the things to do and we just did everything with her.” said Connie truthfully.

“I think you two girls have a lot of courage to admit the truth since Shirley wouldn’t admit the truth then she will be the one sent home and I will have a good talk with her mother.” said Mrs. Grable, with some of the sternness lightening up in her face. She paused and then continued speaking “Connie and Jane, you will be grounded at school for two months.”

Connie and Jane looked at each other with dismay and relief on their faces that they had got off so easily.

They still felt guilty at playing those horrible tricks on Clorena and Judy and went over and apologized. “I hope you will forgive us for all the cruel tricks we played on you!” exclaimed Connie very humbly with a heavy face.

“And I, I have never felt so ashamed in my life before and I hope you can forgive us and maybe we can be your friends some day.” said Jane hopefully.

Clorena and Judy looked at each other and said happily “Of course, we will forgive you and we had hoped you would be our friends.”

The ice was finally broken and everybody except Shirley was smiling at each other happily. From then on nobody had Trouble At School again.

Molly in the Land of Bluecondron

By Felicia McCaw © All rights belong to Felicia McCaw, 1003 N. 2nd Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48601 (989) 332-7718 revised 11-7-2014 date written 12-23-2009.

Far in the land of Bluecondron was a poor distressed creature who had been cursed from the day of her birth. She was ugly, bent, twisted, and bitter and everywhere she went she was cursed, spit upon and had the dogs sicked upon her. Everyday she got up and did the same old routine everyday. She got up and brushed her thin, straggly hair, bathed herself, brushed the few teeth in her mouth. She only had five teeth left in her mouth since the local blacksmith had pulled her other teeth because the other villagers had accused her stealing a loaf of bread.

Her name was Molly and what little hair she had left was a dull shade of red, her skin was indescribable since she was coated with so much dirt. She lived far in the forest where the trees was tall as the eye could see and the wind whistled eerily throughout the weird spiked limbs of the tallest tree. No one dared to come into this part of the forest since some of the villagers that came looking for Molly to blame her for every misdeed and crime that was committed on her and never came back.

This is what I told all the villagers to say “Who cares for her…every villager would say to each other…lets just beat her and throw her out of the village every time a crime or misdeed is committed”, said the fat, bald, rubber belly Major of Bluecondron.

“I agree I told them to say the same thing”, said the grey haired short runt of a man with eyes the color of flint who wore a turban to hide his bald head who had just been elected deputy sheriff.

Next came, Rump the Stimp's time to vote and he said in his most gruffest voice “I don’t agree with this decree and I just want to make it known. Make sure you write it down that I don’t care for this kind of underhanded dealings. I’m a fair man…even though I cheat at this certain card game I don’t believe in lying just for the sake of it.”

Lastly, came the blackest devil of them all, Othello the Liar, he said “To hell with you Rump the Stimp you are out. Do you hear me!!!! Out!!! Next time you cheat me at cards I will have you drawn and quartered and I will cut your tongue out before you can protest your innocence. Kill her do you hear me… Kill her or beat her so bad she will never come out of that accursed forest!”

“That’s it we have decided this wretched woman’s fate. Tell all the kids to hit her with rocks and the one who kills her will get a king’s ransom. But they mustn’t go into that part of the forest since it is accursed and we have fifty villagers unaccounted for and they have yet to return and it has already been two months since they left” said the fat, bald, rubber belly Major of Bluecondron.

All four of the leaders left the hovel where they met secretly twice a month to scheme and kill, thieve and conspire how to get more and more gold, treasure, land and everyone’s heredity who crossed their paths of deceit. After trudging through grass, mud, whipping wind and cold black night they finally went their separate ways for the night. All except Rump the Stimp, he was always the quiet one in the bunch and he was tired of being belittled, bullied, ridiculed and now threatened to be killed if he didn’t take care of Molly and kill her or beat her so bad she would never survive.

Well, Rump the Stimp had a plan and now was his time to make his move. He had been waiting for this moment to come. He sniffed disdainfully to himself and said to himself, “Do they really think I’m a fool that I can’t feel the executioner’s blade hovering over my short neck?” He sniffed again and said “No way am I going to be a party to this nasty ball of connivance“. Thinking to himself I know someone who will help me for I kept the teeth they pulled out of dear ugly, bent, twisted, and bitter Molly’s mouth.

Looking back, Rump the Stimp recalled that long ago a sea hag came from the ocean dragging a magical chest full of jewels worth many a king’s fortune and gave it to him to watch over ugly Molly. She told him if ever he needed help to look in the chest and there inside is a magical elixir for him to drink that will transform him into a person that he used to be two lifetimes ago. So tiredly, he went to his hiding place and dug the chest out of the ground from the back of a deserted hovel in the next village. Quiet as death he unearthed the chest and found the blue bottle with swirls and scrolled foreign letters on it and drank the entire contents as he was told to do.

In a twinkling of an eye, he felt himself weave dizzly and and wobble on his feet. He laid down and closed his eyes and went to sleep. When he became aware of his situation that he was lying on a cold, moldy, damp floor in the middle of an abandoned hovel he got up and looked down at his clothing and saw that they were hanging about his body and frame like tattered rags. He took a step and looked down at his feet and blinked. He could not believe his eyes his feet were twice the size that they used to be, he looked at his hands and torso and his legs and screamed out “What madness is this! Am I crazed? Am I suffering a delusion an illusion? My God who am I? My lord I am taller than croes! My head is touching the ceiling of this damn hovel!”

Rump the Stimp sat down heavily and put his head in his hands and thought to himself my god, the lord has finally answered my prayers and said be patient and you will know when the right time to drink this elixir. I will send to you a sea hag from the sea and this will help redeem yourself in my eyes for you will have to save a poor unfortunate beat down soul who has been cruelly treated by everyone, yourself included and the only way to save yourself is to help this creature. Rump the Stimp sat up and scratched his chin and to his surprise he was clean shaven with a dimple in his chin and he wondered what his face looked like and looked around for something to see his image in. Finding nothing he grabbed his too small cloak and took some gold and jewels from the chest and hid it again and sought out the nearest tailor in the village.

Walking down the street was everyone in the village going about their daily mundane chores until woe and behold was a vision to make many a fine wench stop in mid step and gawk with their mouth open until their dam grabbed them and forced them from making a fool out of themselves. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop the married wenches from peeking around their husbands smiling coyly and blinking their eyes at him as he continued to stride hurriedly to find the tailor shop. Breathing deeply, he closed the door thankfully behind him. Rushing toward him was a little mouse of a man with black hair split down the middle wearing a close fitting jacket and trousers. His name was Paul the Tailor and he asked him, “May I help you?”

Rump the Stimp said, “Please do. I unfortunately have no clothing or shoes that will fit me and I need an entire wardrobe and a room to stay while I wait. Can you help me with this request?”

Paul the Tailor said, “Mais Oui, Yes, I can and I can fulfill your request within two to three hours. I have some clothing that a client did not pay for and I can alter the garments and they should fit you perfectly, Monsieur. As for the shoes and boots, my friend Pierre has some shoes and boots that I gauge will fit you perfectly and I happen to have a pair that you can try on now.” Handing him the boots to try on, Paul the Tailor went and got his tape measure and waited while his customer Rump the Stimp tried on the boots. As Paul the Tailor thought the boots fit him like a glove and clung to his muscular calves like a second skin.

Rump the Stimp walked around trying the boots for comfort and gave Paul the Tailor a decisive nod and said “I will take everything that you have.” He stood still while Paul the Tailor took his measurements to alter the garments to fit. After taking his measurements, Paul the Tailor gave him an address of a tavern which rented rooms for travelers and whatever and told him he would send a messenger with a change of clothing and let him know when the rest was ready. Leaving half the amount due Rump the Stimp went to the tavern and rented a room and slept for several hours.

After hearing a knock on his door, Rump the Stimp went to answer the door with a sheet around his waist and told Paul the Tailor to come in and tried on one garment and paid him the balance of what was due and watched with secret glee as they brought in trunk after trunk. Striding around in his pantaloons and pirate shirt he shook his long wavy black hair and admired his dashing form in the mirror and said to himself, “They won’t know what hit them because look at me “Rump the Stimp” is dead and in his place is Paul the Blessed. Hee Hee. I will now be known as Paul Rochester of Soderridge a village far, far away in the southern part of this country and just visiting as traveler.”

Paul Rochester came down and signed the register for two weeks and told them that his patron Rump the Stimp went to the doctor and passed away and now he has to pay for his own room and board now. Smiling charmingly at the Innkeeper’s wife he gave her an extra sixpence for her trouble. Watching him with big eyes she watched him leave the tavern with a dazed look on her face and sat down and looked around to make sure no one was looking and tucked the sixpence in her bosom and fanned her heated face.

Paul left the village and went back to the land of Bluecondron and rented a room for a month. After renting the room, he went about putting his plan into action. Renting him a stead, he left with food and supplies at the next dawn and rode to the edge of the forest and walked into the forest until he came to a sign marked with jaggedly letters “keep out or else”. Laughing to himself he proceeded into the forest until he came to a clearing where the air was fresh, clean, and the sky was an azure blue and the clouds looked like big fluffy white pillows in the sky. Directly ahead was a small hovel with flowers planted around it, with deer contently drinking water from the small pond and sitting on a small bench was poor ugly Molly feeding a little squirrel crumbs from her hand laughing gently as it rubbed its little head on the palm of her hand.

Bending his head under a branch he looked directly at her and saw all the pain and sorrow in her eyes since he knew that this was the only sanctuary that she would ever have. Walking quickly he gave her a small signal that told her that this was him (Rump the Stimp) and that the fairy tale he told her would come true when she would need him the most. Paul Rochester (previously known as Rump the Stimp) looked at her and wondered how did she make it all these years alone with the small food that she managed to grub for herself and the small amount he was able to secretly bring her while trying to keep her hiding place a secret.

Reaching inside his bag he pulled the most unusual colored bottle ever beheld by any man on this earth and placed it inside her small work-worn hand and told her to drink the elixir and she would be free from the curse that was placed on her and her deceased relatives. Looking at him with big trusting eyes she raised the bottle to her dried parched lips and drank the entire contents of the bottle and fell asleep instantly.

Paul Rochester picked her up and placed her on a bed of daisies and watched the transformation start from her small feet to her small head. Shaking his head, scratching his chin he went and sat down and watched an unearthly glow surround her and enclose her until he could not see thru the pinkish cloud.

After what seemed like ages, he took a brief nap and when he awakened from his brief slumber there sat ugly Molly who was no longer ugly Molly but a young woman of such unearthly beauty that all he could do was sit and yearn to have her for his own. Walking to her quietly he approached with gentleness and kindness and grabbed her hand in his and led her to the pond and told her to look upon her true image and placed on her head a tiara with seven white giant pearls and on her finger a ring with a pearl and emerald to show his love for her always. Together they left the forest with their hands entwined and went to the Village of Bluecondron and were married and he went to the Mayor’s office and called for a hearing to be held immediately because he had found the missing princess (Princess Molly) and that she had been missing since she was a baby and was now married to him. The guards posted outside would arrest the Mayor of Bluecondron, Othello the Liar and the imposter with grey hair and eyes of grey flint and would be guillotined tomorrow morning.

Paul Rochester and Molly now known as Prince Paul & Princess Molly left the village and reclaimed the throne on behalf of her slain relatives and are now known as fairest couple in any kingdom who are fair and righteous in any judgment or dealing with their guests, servants and villagers and all others and lived happily ever after and anytime you see a rainbow their kingdom lies directly beneath it.

The Turtle Who Fought Back

Inspired by Turtle Makes War on Man, written by Joseph Bruchac, located in The Boy who lived with the Bears and other Iroquois stories.

A time of distant when animals and men could talk clear and understand each other well there was one Turtle being offended long decided to fight back injustice seen

Eyes of empathy reflected the pain of seeing other animals hunted and preyed on for food and play

Turtle with war paint of red slashes of vertical went on path of war against the human beings

Singing a song of war Turtle paddled down the river to commence his siege and attack

Meeting Bear on the way Turtle listened attentively as he offered to make war with him and he said you can’t go because he had to travel fast far and the canoe was too small

Commencing with the song of war Turtle continued on alone until he met Wolf who said I’m fast and not slow of feet like Bear take me with you

Looking at Wolf’s mouth of large Turtle became afraid and said you are far too fast a runner and might leave and not stay to fight with me side by side

Singing up a storm of war clouds Turtle continued on until he came across an animal of black and white whose weapon of secret impressed him mightly and said don’t use it until we attack the humans fierce and said Skunk come along with me

Traveling by two they continued on down the river singing a song of war until they met Snake and said we are mighty warriors who go to wipe out all the human beings and asked If he had a secret weapon

Snake slithered and whispered with a happy hiss and said yes I do and climbed into the canoe

Commencing further down the river they sang sang the war song rejoice of three mighty warriors pursuing the fight against humans

Strategic plans established by the three mighty warriors; Turtle, Snake and Skunk hid in places to attack at first dawn

Skunk, the second mighty warrior hid by a little spring to lay his siege of attack to surprise the women with his secret weapon of danger and fired away fast and reacting fast the woman grabbed him by his neck and beat him blow after effective blow until his head flattened out and he ran away never to try this venture again

The third mighty warrior, Snake, staged his attack with great strategic thought and placed himself among sticks to wage his attack against humans and women

Sharp eyes of a hawk she saw him and threw stone after stone until his head flattened out and he ran away never to try this venture again holding his head sore

One last and the first mighty warrior to wage his attack was the Turtle with his plan to hide discreet amongst the cooking pots to wage his attack on humans and women and men

Still clinging with persistent tight Turtle being shrewd enough to know the man wanted to kill him told him to put him in the fire for it loves him dear and the man being of hateful contrary anger at Turtle biting him refused

Anger still running wild in him he said viciously I will drown you (you mean turtle) in the river deep and dragging him along the man took him far in and pushed him far in and Turtle laughing deep swam away for he was free free rejoicing that he still lived and put war aside for it told much and he decided to let sleeping dogs lie

The Dance of the Rabbit in the Snow

Inspired by Rabbit’s Snow Dance, written by Joseph Bruchac, located in The Boy who lived with the Bears and other Iroquois stories.

Once upon a time in days of old rabbits looked different with legs of long and tail of bushy swishing long

Being a rabbit of love of snow he showed his love to prance and dance in the flakes of white fluffs until they churn up laughing as he flies bye

A day of sad occurred for the snow melted and their tears went into hard caring earth and Rabbit said if only it would snow they would laugh again and so would I

Thinking hard Rabbit remembered what his grandmother told him a song of sweet to enchant the snow to whisper and fall as flakes of laughing wonder to please a little Rabbit’s wish for snow

Rabbit singing a song of sweet one oh sweet one if you fall I would your embrace to feel your sweet caress on my face as I travel fast fast as my heart beat until all is surreal sublime pleasure that charm even the Gods and stars above smiled

Hearing his song of courtship the snow fell fell in sweet laughing flakes of white fluff to grant his wish to run and play and as he song it snowed snowed until all trees were covered to the tip of all

Rabbit became tired for he had reached the pinnacle of top and had danced and song until his home was hidden fast beneath the snow and with that thought he curled himself tight on branch of tree and slept slept slept until the snow melted and was stuck in air in tree

Rabbit unable to climb a tree looked bewildered puzzled on how to get down to go home and hunger hit him hard and he fell breaking his tail and scrunched his back legs and split his lip and with knowledge known always quit while you’re ahead and do not be so opt to seek only play and pleasure

The Chipmunk and the Bear

Inspired by Chipmunk and Bear, written by Joseph Bruchac, located in The Boy who lived with the Bears and other Iroquois stories.

A time of day when all animals talked to each other free

There was one called Bear whose arrogant nature exceeded all for he thought he could do anything being the biggest in the forest and everything went his way all the time fine

Chipmunk being a prickly smart little one said with a snide spiteful grin you can’t you can’t do everything with a hidden challenge trumpeting loud wide

Bear looked down his supercilious nose with smugness pride and said I can do I can do anything I wish

Chipmunk looked at Bear with deliberate spite and said you can’t tell the sun to not come up in the morning and went on I bet you can’t control it

Bear being a thought of clear and easy to read said that’s what I’ll do and I will guarantee it will not rise for I will pray pray and chant and chant high and low high and low

Chipmunk skeptical and one of the skeptics said I will watch and see with a smile of surety and malice that he will fail and turned his face away for Bear to not see

Diligent and watchful Bear and Chipmunk sat side by side with Bear chanting under his breath I command the sun to rise not to rise not for I Bear command it so

Sitting by his side Chipmunk smiled sly and said with rhythmic chants the sun will rise anyway anyway anyway ha ha ha ha ha ha for he thinks he is all that

Chipmunk watched Bear chant harder and harder facing the direction the sun rise rise and the harder he chanted the more Chipmunk amusement grew and he started to laugh laugh laugh harder and harder as it rose irregardless

Bear feeling aggravated sore threatened Chipmunk with death of quick for his mockery hurt him through and his rage burned hot to be ridiculed fool

Chipmunk understanding his own plight thought fast as lightening quick of a way to defuse with groveling whines said with all manner of sweet platitudes to free his way to gain safety quick

Bear’s conceit and arrogance proved his own undoing and lifted his paw briefly and Chipmunk dove free but did not escape the claw marks down his back and aged grey white down his back from fright and from this time all

Chipmunks have white strips down their back to remind them never mock never mock an unknown source

How the Birds Became Afeathered

Inspired by How the Birds Got their Feathers, written by Joseph Bruchac, located in The Boy who lived with the Bears and other Iroquois stories.

A time when the moon was cold and the sun hot as Hade’s blade

The birds of all had no feathers to protect them or fly high as Pegusas venture high

The wind told told that the birds cried that its bite was too cold and beat against their tender skin and they shivered as if they were chilled thru and thru

Watching tears flow from the wind’s eyes as he told the sadness of all the creator felt compassion deep and gave them a dream of dream to hold the message dear and appoint one to appear and ask the creator for their dearest wish at Skyland

The Buzzard being one of the strongest was sent on a trip to fly fly for so impressed thrilled was he that he coasted high into the sky until the sun burned the top of his head and he became bald

Reaching the Creator he pleaded pleaded for clothing for his people and the Creator granted his request for many and being brave and strong the first choice is yours

Coat of feathers after coat of feathers Buzzard tried on until he came to the last and was gifted with the same of dirty feathers because there were no others to choose from and once discarded he could not go back to choose

Being allowed a choice of many does not necessary mean that he choose unwisely for his guise suited him fine and his gift of chivalry and giving gave him reason to be proud
