THE HUNTSMAN'S WINTER

Inspired by Winter the Huntsman by Osbert Sitwell located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Cold crisp days of eons they became the same

Colors of every season fade till each day became endless torment

Calling the dogs of train with horn of plenty they ran side by side

Watching the air curl crisp under flying feet he followed their path through green foliage painted white close as a deer's tears

Baying loud the ground trembled beneath pounding churning thoughts of the hunt the hunt the hunt

Copper bells resounded as they ran faster faster with the Huntsman leaning forward in saddle of swift challenge lively the thoughts came

Swirling whip in air he cracked it loud loud loud loud teeth shining predatorial white in light of day
