My Meritocratist Lens has a score of “8” because I agree with the criteria that merit should be the only reason a person is rewarded if a person works hard then they should be rewarded. Under this category, I disagree that special programs, affirmative action or “lower standards” demotivate employees because sometimes these programs can serve as a catalyst to install motivation in others and this will help different races wish for a good job and inspire them to make these goals theirs as well. Further on the contrary, I feel that these programs will instill a desire to evolve further to a higher level and utilizing their own personal drive and self-sacrifice they can overcome any obstacle.
Jody’s characteristics I agree with are as follow: She is a hard worker and a positive advocate for people who are dedicated and competent. Also, she is a highly motivated person who has ensured that she received the education to enable her to move up and has a “killer” work ethic that allowed her to move up the ladder quickly. She is a very intelligent individual and knows her “stuff” in a field that is mostly dominated by males and she is quick witted and able to defend her ideas against others who may challenge her theories and ideas. Also, she is a practical person that kept to her focus of getting an education with her family’s support. Further, she supports the principle that I do and that is you cannot help people who do not want help but blame others and the system for their failure.
This lens is very effective and allows and enhances the ability to communicate because the person (s) is a high caliber person and is very motivated in doing their job and will assist if there is a request.
I disagree with what is stated “Collin Powell does not have a true Meritocratist experience or fit the Lens”. On page 106, Collin Powell’s statement or comment reflects that he does fit the category “Meritocratist” because he obtained his position on his merit and ability and no favoritism was given. Further, he is an African American male who has achieved a high ranking position despite the inner workings of a prejudicial society that we live in (in America). Furthermore, the impact of this statement hopefully will support the choice of merit and ability of allowing the future consideration of an African American for this post (current Secretary of State) based on his ability, education and track record. Furthermore, any leading position that is a high security level would create an increased level of scrutiny and confirmation of the person’s ability to do the job. As far as politics, I do not feel “who you know” is going to cut the mustard and get the next person elected or appointed to this position. So definitely not – politics will not have any effect on the Secretary of State selection for this position.

In What Ways does Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Influence Understanding of Human Behavior?
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs influences the understanding of human behavior because they are primary goals and are utilized to assist in self-actualization. By self-actualization this consists of utilizing the hierarchy of needs to use as a base foundation to help sustain physiological needs which consists of food, water, oxygen, rest and so on. Physiological needs are some of the most vital aspects that are vital to human maintenance and survival and its affective state on behavior of humans. The deleting of one causes causal affects and changes in behavior and interactive behavioral changes between humans. Subsequently, it depends on what necessary physiological needs are being taken away and evolves the ability to analyze and understand the acting out of human behavior.
His emphasis on safety reflects security, stability and freedom from fear and because of this the main thought is that humans rate this as one of the primary needs of life and it is of paramount importance to sustaining life free from anxiety, threats and chaos. Further because of this human behavior is able to be interpreted easily because having the required safety allows the ability to function properly and live and prosper as wished.
The next need he lists is Belongingness and Love and that is the emotional need that any human has for each person. By admitting this need and allowing the possibility of intimacy and affection to be an allowable part in life this maintains the level of humans that is a central part of each human’s life therefore allowing empathy towards understanding where they are coming from and understanding of feelings of humans.
His next need listed is Self-Esteem and this is the intricate and central part of a person which allows the perceived value of self and own worth that is defensible and allows a firm stance. By the establishing of one’s own self-worth which is equivalent to self-esteem this will allow overall objectivity and perusal of needed changes and evolved differences in character and persons therefore the evolved state of human understanding.
The last need is Self-Actualization and this is the step where all humans wish to be and the goal striven and driven to achieve. All humans need to fulfill one’s potential and need to modify behavior to achieve what is called “mine” and “me” and see themselves as individuals who all are working at a goal “to be”. “To Be” means I am all that I can be and will be as God so states and will and I will learn all that will make “Me who I am”.

What are your personal beliefs about spirituality and religion?
My beliefs about spirituality and religion is that the spirit of the Lord resides in us all. Further we have the right to love and cherish God as our savior, friend, love and companion. Further a person’s faith or lack of it is their own personal business and is a decidedly touchy subject with some people and my belief in God is a private manifestation of Christ in my life.
As an African-American female I realize that once it was a forbidden exercise for us to have prayer service and church and that many of us died to have church and savor the fruits of his hand for serving only him. Being a part of an oppressed nation of people allows me to understand that God is the only deliverer and giver of strength and mercy that I have ever known and I will continue to serve only him because he is Alpha Omega Odelta and Magum in all of the universes and with him I feel no shame because I know I pay a price for serving him.
Being a true spiritualist means that God is with you all the time and he will fight your battles and deny you no succor or rest in him. I will believe this to my dying day for all that I have was given to me by him and all that I will be will be treasured and kept by him.

As per my thoughts on what a social role is the first thing I need to do is establish a definition for myself. A social work role as my position entails being an enabler and assistant to those in need. The first thing a caring person wants to do is empower the client so that this person can take control of his/her life to improve their self and situate themselves to have a chance to live a better life.
As an assessor or determiner it would be my job to analyze and understand their behavior and nurture their strengths and attack weaknesses by bringing them up to a better level to function in society and abide by social expectations of providing for self. After all, this is their destiny that as a social worker I am concerned with and I would be trying to help them change in the future towards a more positive path. Being professional and exhibiting empathy is the highest goal for me in a professional capacity and helping them survive the bumps and sometimes minor failures and keep going will be my devotion and passion to relay freely.

The two lenses that I feel are comparable to me are the “Color Blind” and “Multiculturalist” Lens because both have strong aspects or characteristics that indicate the needs for positivity in dealing with people and giving all an equal chance to live peacefully among each other and respect each other cultural identities.
Further in order to reflect inclusivity we must all be more tolerant and allow the diversity to be acknowledged and acknowledge the need for multicultural people in the workplace to reflect a fair representation of all races.
The lens Sue would probably be more comfortable with in the workplace is the Colorblind Lens. By utilizing this lens this allows the equal treatment of all employees and view and treat each as objectively as possible.
