A Tale of Africa in the Land of Nandi

Inspired by A Nandi Tale Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain, written by Verna Aardema.

On the Great Kapiti Plains replete with rain to nourish seas of grass

Dwelled plenty of God’s creatures of several that rested feasted on meals of many

Until a day came when rains became few and scarce that made the land parch thirst and animals migrate to places of many

Plaintive cries of sad hunger and thirst raised high to heavens of high for rain rain to nourish the Plains of Kapiti

Eyes of flooding with pleading tears looked with anguish at the rain cloud of heavy frown and sighed sorrowfully with mourns at possible death

Ki-Pat a curly head youth of skin of black watched with prayers silent and solemn for rain rain rain to save his herd who cried cried and pleaded pleaded with baying rings of loud

A day of usual became one another when a feather of unremarkable fell from the sky and from that Ki-Pat formed an arrow of straight to pray for weather of change to become a friend of a bow of strong and long to appeal to a rain cloud of heavy frown with pure sweet that lifted a smile of acceptance and freed the rain to nourish and feed the parched land and thirst of all for his reward his wife and son of heritage future

BULLY TO YOU AND BACK SEQUEL

Hello, my name is nobody and I am older and more established and more adjusted to make it in life again.
I took one step at a time and received help from the most merciful people that I have ever met and they saw in my heart that I needed someone to love, nurture and support me and my mom emotionally.

I am still not as strong as I need to be but I am feeling better and better as people come to realize that I have feelings also and I am not ashamed of being intelligent and that I have been brought up to do the best that I can so I can be a contributor and not a burden to my family or my country.

Just as Felicia told me to do I told my mom of the pain that I am suffering and she gave me the empathy and compassion that I needed and moral support and I was able to go on and strive forward and proceed with my life. I have managed to make friends and we go around and support each other emotionally and are close and study together and have a lot in common and we communicate if we disagree with each other so we don’t lose our dear friendship.

We have established talks and practice on each other therapy and laugh about some of the solutions that we come up. We use imaginary problems and solve them and have good clean fun and not fun that needs to be made at the expense of someone else.

I am more outgoing and more confident and I am still a little shy about fitting in but I am doing better and I am talking to people and we decided not to move but stick it out and see if things would get better and they are for we found people that love us and support us emotionally and are really compassionate and really warm and loving.

They are teaching us good ethics and kindness so we can help other people and form a chain around the earth of love and support. I don’t feel lonely anymore or isolated because they have helped empower us and I don’t feel that I am lost in a shell now. I am not being picked on now and I feel good about me and I don’t rush anymore or feel physically or psychologically threatened. I don’t feel that I am in a living hell and that I have to quit school because I love going to school and I love to learn and everything that happens is not always a negative but a unique learning experience.

I don’t feel weird because learning is a joy to me and no one is talking about my mom and the real me is starting to blossom and come out and love people and myself and I am learning that to help others is to help me. I fit in and my friends do also and we are sociable and doing fine and I am studying hard and I have a chance to get a tutor and I am not sad now and I appreciate Felicia for telling me that she was where I was and now she is striving hard and she wants me to continue on, pray and know that God’s is joy, love, protection, sweet, mercy and justice.

I am never giving up like Felicia and I will persevere because she loves me, she understands and she wants us to claim our FUTURE.

BULLY TO YOU AND BACK

HI! My name is nobody. I am young in years and old in spirit. I go to school here in Saginaw, Michigan. I have long black hair and I am very slender and soft-spoken. I am very shy. I keep hoping to fit in and make friends because I just moved here a year ago. At the other school I went to I was teased and picked on all the time. My mom thought it would be good that we moved since she had lost her job and hoped if we relocated things might be different. But unfortunately things are just the same as they were at my other school.

Nobody seems to like me. I feel very lonely and isolated. When I go to school I just seem to crawl within myself and try to make it through the day. Sometimes when I go to school, I sometimes get lost in thought and try to figure out what is it that is wrong with me. Why is everyone picking on me? I feel like a walking target in school. I walk as fast as I can to get to my other classes and try to avoid the ones who love to torment me.

Maybe they don’t like me because I am smart. That’s what the other kids say to me. You think you are so smart don’t you? I just stand there and feel exposed and vulnerable. What can I say to this? I just freeze up and try to get away as soon as possible.

I feel sad a lot because every day I try and try to fit in. But I never will I am too different. The other kids say I am weird and say hurtful things about me and my mom. They don’t even know the real me because I am never given a chance and they don’t know anything about my mom.

I think today I will tell my mom what is going on at school. I hate to do it because she works so hard and comes home exhausted. Why can’t I fit in anywhere? I just have to tell mom because I am having a hard time at school. My mom always tells me that I have to study hard so I can go to college and get a good job. I am trying so hard to do what my mom is telling me but it is very difficult to study because I am so sad all the time.

Before I could tell my mom what was going on at school I met a lady whose name is Felicia. There she was at my school volunteering and one day she looked up and saw me. In her eyes I saw love and understanding. Why I wondered would a stranger look at me as if she was seeing the real me and accepted what she saw. I felt a warmth feel me from within out.

Why did Felicia seem so strange? She was patient and impatient. She seemed to always be bustling around on a mission with adults she was very cool and watchful. But with children I could see the love flowing from her eyes to every child within her sight. This reminded me of a bible story I saw about Jesus that said forbid not the children to come unto him that we all must be like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven. I guess that is why she befriended me because I seemed to be so lost within myself.

When I first met her she introduced herself as Felicia and told me that all her family called her Licia. She looked at me with eyes that seemed wise beyond their years and asked what was wrong. At first, I said nothing was wrong. But, she continued to look at me with so much empathy and compassion that I broke down and begin to cry. She gently touched my shoulder and said “hush little one” all is not as bad as it seems. In time the love of Jesus will heal all hurts and cushion and protect you from those who try to treat you badly.

I stopped crying and looked at her with wonder in my eyes. Who was she? No one had never told me anything like this. I am ashamed to say that we did not go to church and I had never thought of praying or gave a thought to God or Jesus. I said to myself how can this be so and I asked her this.

She replied and told me that at one time she did not have faith that was strong enough or felt that she did not pray enough. Many thought she was an unbeliever, but she knew otherwise because when she was teased and bullied she knew that God carried her through and gave her the knowledge and strength to carry on even if she has to go alone. She went on and told me “little one” know this that God created us equal in his sight and that he alone will be the one to judge and all we have to do is have faith in him. So child if someone is trying to hurt you and make you feel unworthy of God’s love than know this only God can raise you to heaven and protect from all. Sit down with your mom and tell her what is going on.

I sat there and hung my head and sighed. Why do I feel like Felicia as if I had seen it all and felt it all when I am so young in years. I lifted my head and breathed loudly. I told Felicia I am going to tell my mom what is happening. After talking with this stranger, I felt myself feeling better than I had in a long time. If a stranger could look at me and see my pain and talk to me with so much love than I know that I will be alright and I know something else now. I have faith in God now that he will protect me.

Thank god someone took time and took a second look and saw my hurt and pushed me in the right direction. I know that mom loves me and that she will help me get any help I need. Now, I feel a smile starting from the inside out. I know that there is love in the world and that I will be accepted for who I am. So forgive me bully but I accept no more.

The Interlude and Dance of the Frog and the Bird

Inspired by The Frog and the Bird written by Vera Hessey located in A Children’s Book of Verse, Illustrated by Eric Kincaid, Poems selected by Marjorie Rogers. (Brimax Books)

Sunshine springing from well of joy glossing the sky and stream by woods of green foliage and thickets of deep green.

Chirp chirp chirp the bird crowed over his good fortune to have a great perch high in the willows crying tree.

The frog with eyes of blue aqua soft croaked croaked croaked with sweet content as he consumed fly after fly.

Froggie the Frog replete full said to the bird don’t you wish you were me?

Eagle the Bird said no I don’t because I can go where you can’t. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Froggie said “so”. I get around good as you heck I just can’t see far as you.

Eagle said good I am glad you are not jealous you are my friend for life. Pack?

Froggie said pack. You got it. I love you already!

Coming down from his perch of lofty thoughts and scenes they began the waltz and tango of friendship to seal the bargain swift.

Laughter trailing step by step they pranced forward backward swinging sideways as they hammered tune by tune to thrill all eyes watching with wry humor and appreciation of theatrics of many.

Interlude coming to end they ended with hands clasped with friendship sealed forever.

A Pride of Fall or Stand

Trinket flew with light fluttery breaths of tinkling sun looking for Whisper

Light voice tinkling as a waterfall on soft spun sugar she called his name soft Whisper Whisper

Running to the front of his cubbyhole he peeked out with wide brown eyes of sharp curiosity and who are you? You are beautiful!

Poppa God sent me on a mission a mission for you, me and someone else named Snippet to explore pride goes before a fall deep

Riding on Whisper’s back Trinket chattered free as bubble gum en route to finding Snippet

Picking up pace of snail they came unto a house of tiny white stone and both called Snippet the Mysterious to come out and explore explore Poppa God sent us true

Snippet came out with potato chip in hand with two big teeth flashing with happy giggling glow saying I’m in I’m in

Snippet and Whisper looked at Trinket with eyes of expectancy what marvel feat must we do with fervor?

Trinket replied soft serious we discuss the sin of pride and overt resistance to it and how destructive it is to one and all

Snippet and Whisper convened in discussion bright saying Poppa God those with pride much are often sad, down-trodden and fail all the time

Trinket said I thought the same that’s why even though all say I’m beautiful I am still humble and do God’s will freely with pleasure long

Snippet and Whisper said we are complimented all the time but we are not vain for God’s loves a man of chaste, stand and love of nation all with knowledge, faith, integrity, dignity, strength, with principles to withstand the one and all

Snippet, Whisper, Trinket clasped hands and prayed Lord God let us all appreciate the state of humble and not be vain and prevail to not be full of pride lest we die for lack of faith true

Gingerbread Man (ADULTS ONLY)

Once a day of boredom occurred when a lady of elderly baked a man of gingerbread dressed fine.

Hearing a noise of racket she opened the oven door for he said clear “Open the door you old bag I am not to eat.”

She said wait wait Gingerbread Man I want to eat you up quick.

Looking cruel he said I think not bitch you and nobody else is going to eat me up quick.

Screaming and singing loud he said run run old bitch as fast as you can you ain’t eating me up I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Running fast still little legs pumping fast he ran into a duck of drooling hunger saying stop stop little Gingerbread Man I want to eat you whole.

Face looking mean as hell little Gingerbread Man said with a cruel thrust of parry fuck you applehead bitch you ain’t eating me and the old bitch ain’t eating me either and ran away fast quick I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Running faster he flew as the wind until he met a cow of lazy chewing cud and looking at him wrong as hell with lips twised a drool telling him to stop she wanted to eat him bite by delicious bite.

Face averted to hide his face whipped around quick with snarl of threat and said you long titty bitch I am not for you to eat or for the appleheaded bitch or the old bitch who baked me and you can eat shit and die because you ain’t eating shit I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Smiling he ran faster faster and ran into a horse with two big teeth of overhang snapping saying I want to eat you up and crush you into crumbs of ambrosia sweet.

Looking over his shoulder he said fuck you I am not for you to break up in crumbs of ambrosia sweet and be ate by the likes of your broke down mule face ass and I’m saying this now you ain’t eating me or the appleheaded bitch or the old bitch that baked me and you can grind the shit out of your ass and eat it because I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Laughing uproariously he ran faster faster faster until he ran into a sly hunting fox of shining teeth and personable ways who said stop stop I just want to converse with you brother brother.

Still smiling happy mean Gingerbread Man ran ran ran singing with high soprano you can’t eat me I’m fast swift stupid I ain’t for eating I am survival of the fittest I’m the Gingerbread Man.

Running with him the sly hunting fox who said I don’t want to eat you up snap by snap I just want to help you help you and said let me help you cross the river to safety.

Gingerbread Man not being slow of wit looked behind him and said ok and jumped on the sly hunting fox’s back and peered with nonchalance and rode his back as a ship sail and looked at him through cunning slits and leaped to safety and told him quick you think your ass is smart don’t you but I’m not to be ate by your weasel face ass or the broke down mule face ass or the applehead bitch or the old bitch that baked me live and learn I got this down even though I was just baked today.

Fuck you! I am the best already and I say Non Sequiter and flipped the third to life and lived best.
